Special Message
Distance education at Drake University includes a thriving summer online program. Each summer Drake offers a wide array of fully online courses that students can complete without having to attend a face-to-face class meeting. During summer 2004, nearly 60 courses are scheduled for both undergraduate and graduate credit, which can easily be transferred to other institutions.
Many of Drake's courses are suitable for advanced high school students and/or students about to enter college. In addition, Drake offers a sample Web course for prospective students, as well as extensive online support and training for enrolled online students.
Students must register online for Web-based courses at http://www.multimedia.drake.edu/summer/beginning in early April. A list of 2004 courses, as well as details about the registration process, can be found at http://www.onlinelearning/drake.edu/summer/.
Experienced Drake faculty members teach every online course;courses are generally limited to 20–25 students. In student evaluations of Drake's program, about two thirds of the students say that they learn equally well or better in an onlineenvironment than in a traditional classroom. Drake's online program also provides access to on-campus library sources, as well as tuition and fees, advising, and ordering books.
Drake's online program is particularly suited to independent and self-motivated learners whose schedules require flexibility.
Drake's online program began in 1997 and serves registrants throughout the world. For more information on the Web-based program, students should contact Summer Programming at 800-44-DRAKE Ext. 4368 (toll-free) or via e-mail at [email protected].
