Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation Fellowships (Postdoctorate/Fellowship)
Purpose: To support the training of the brightest postdoctoral scientists as they embark upon their research careers. Focus: Medical Research. Qualif.: Applicants must have completed one or more degrees or its equivalent: MD, PhD, MD/Phd, DDS, DVM (applicants must include a copy of their diploma to confirm date of conferral); application must be under the guidance of a Sponsor - a scientist (tenured, tenure-track or equivalent position); applicants who have already accepted a postdoctoral research fellowship award are not eligible. Criteria: Selection is based on the quality of the research proposal; qualifications, experience and productivity of both the candidate and the Sponsor; and the quality of the research training environment in which the proposed research is to be conducted.

Damon Runyon Clinical Investigator Awards (Postdoctorate/Fellowship)
Purpose: To increase the number of physicians capable of moving seamlessly between the laboratory and the patient's bedside in search of breakthrough treatments. Focus: Medical research. Qualif.: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents; must be nominated by their institution; must have received an MD or MD/PhD degree(s) from an accredited institution and are board-eligible; must be committed to spending 80% of their time conducting research; must apply in conjunction with a mentor who is established in the field of clinical translational cancer research. Criteria: Recipients are chosen based on excellence of the applicant and the mentor; innovation, creativity, quality and originality of research proposal; commitment of the mentor and institution to the development and training of the applicant as an independent clinical research investigator; evidence of the applicant's commitment to clinical translational and/or cancer prevention research and their ability to apply these advances; importance of the proposed research; and adherence of the proposal to the definition of clinical research.

Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation Awards (Postdoctorate/Fellowship)
Purpose: To provide funding for extraordinary early career researchers who have an innovative new idea but lack sufficient preliminary data to obtain traditional funding. Focus: Medical research. Qualif.: Applicants, including non-U.S. citizens, must be conducting independent research at a U.S. research institution; institutional nominations are not required; basic and translational/clinical projects will be considered; applicants with a background in multiple disciplines are encouraged to apply; joint submission from collaborators working in different disciplines will be considered; applicants must belong to either: tenure-track Assistant Professors within the first three years of obtaining the position, Clinical Instructors and Senior Clinical Fellows (with an MD) pursuing a period of independent research before taking a faculty position, or Postdoctoral Fellows and highly motivated recent PhD and MD graduates pursuing a period of independent research before taking a faculty position; must commit 80% of their time to conducting research; and must demonstrate access to the resources and infrastructures necessary to conduct the research. Criteria: Recipients are chosen based on the applicant's capacity to conduct bold, exceptionally creative research; the novelty and potential for breakthrough innovation of the proposed research; the likelihood of impact to cancer understanding if research is successful; and the applicant's lack of resources to pursue the proposed research.
