Description: Independent nondenominational, 4-year, coed. Awards associate and bachelor's degrees. Founded 1966. Setting: 80-acre rural campus. Endowment: $37,500. Total enrollment: 56. Community Environment: Glennallen is a rural community that has developed on the crossroads between Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Valdez. The original impetus for the community's growth was the construction of the Alcan Highway for communication during the war years. The climate of Glennallen area runs to extremes with the temperature falling to 50 degrees or more below zero for short periods in midwinter, and rising to 70 degrees or more above zero by the close of the school year in May. Sports such as hunting, fishing, hiking, rafting, and cross country skiing are common recreational activities.
