An important figure in Neo-Classicism, he designed the Braccio Nuovo (1817–22) which, with the Sala delle Muse and the Sala a Croce Greca (by Camporese and Simonetti) in the Vatican Museum, makes up a memorable sequence of spaces based on Antique precedents.
