Palmer, Clement
Palmer, Clement (1857–1952). China-based British architect. With his partner, Arthur Turner (1858–c.1945), he built several important Beaux-Arts-inspired buildings, including the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Building (1921–3). Palmer & Turner also designed many other Classically influenced banks, as well as the Sassoon House (now Peace Hotel), Shanghai (1926–8—a vast building clad in granite and embellished with Art Deco motifs), and the Sassoon Villa, Shanghai (1930—an essay in the Domestic Revival emulating timber-framed Tudor precedents).
