Clerk, Simon
Clerk, Simon (fl.1434–d. 1489). English master-mason, who worked on the great Abbey of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, from 1445, and later at Eton College (c.1453–61). He is known to have been employed at King's College Chapel, Cambridge (1477–85), where he worked with John Wastell, and was involved in the design of the celebrated fan-vault. He may have designed the tower of Lavenham Church, Suffolk (c.1486–1525), and was probably responsible, with Wastell, for the naves at Lavenham and at Great St Mary's, Cambridge. He also worked on the church at Saffron Walden, Essex.
