ROPER, Laura Wood 1911-2003

OBITUARY NOTICE See index for SATA sketch: Born March 15, 1911, in St. Louis, MO; died December 5, 2003, in Cotuit, MA. Author. Roper was an author of biographies for adults and young adults. Graduating from Vassar College with an A.B. in 1932, she worked as a freelance editor and writer. In the early 1940s, Roper published three biographies for young adults: Walter Reed: Doctor in Uniform (1943), Raymond Detmars: His Exciting Career (1944), and Louis Pasteur (1948). She did not publish any more books after that until 1973, when she released a biography for adult readers titled FLO: A Biography of Frederick Law Olmstead. In addition to writing, Roper was an amateur photographer and school volunteer.
