probenecid (proh-ben-ĕ-sid) n. a drug that reduces the level of uric acid in the blood (see uricosuric drug), administered by mouth to prevent the toxic effects of cidofovir, an antiviral drug used to treat severe cytomegalovirus eye infection in AIDS patients. Trade names: Benuryl, Probecid.
