levonorgestrel
levonorgestrel (lee-voh-nor-jes-trĕl) n. a synthetic female sex hormone – a progestogen – used mainly in oral contraceptives, either in combination with an oestrogen (e.g. Logynon, Ovranette) or as a progestogen-only preparation (Norgeston). It is also used in postcoital (emergency) contraception and in the IUS.
