aminophylline (ami-nof-il-een) n. a drug that relaxes smooth muscle and stimulates respiration. Administered by mouth or injection, it is used in the treatment of severe asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. See also theophylline. Trade name: Phyllocontin Continus.
