SIDELIGHTS:

Angeli Perrow once commented: "I have a passion for lighthouses. The flame was lit during my years as an elementary schoolteacher in Hermon, Maine, as I attempted to develop a Maine studies unit that would pull in our science topic of lights and lenses. Material about lighthouses for children was sparse. I researched our state's lighthouses and created a coloring book as an educational tool for my students. Out of the research sprang fascinating people of the past (light-keepers and their families) and tantalizing tidbits of history. One of these, a paragraph about a shipwrecked dog rescued by a lighthouse keeper's daughter, sparked the idea for my first picture book, Captain's Castaway. Another account inspired my second picture book, Lighthouse Dog to the Rescue. It is my hope that by my writing about real people and events, not only will children be entertained, but they will come to appreciate our lighthouses and desire to preserve them for future generations."
