Perron (real name, Pergamenter), Karl

Perron (real name, Pergamenter), Karl, noted German bass-baritone; b. Frankenthal, June 3, 1858; d. Dresden, July 15,1928. He studied with Hey in Berlin, Hasselbasch in Munich, and Stockhausen in Frankfurt am Main, making his debut as Wolfram in 1884 in Leipzig, where he sang until 1891. He then joined the Dresden Court (later State) Opera, remaining on its roster until 1924; during his tenure there, he created the roles of Jochanaan in Salome, Orest in Elektra, and Baron Ochs in Der Rosenkavalier; also appeared at the Bayreuth Festivals (1889–1904), where he was acclaimed for his fine performances of Wotan and King Marke.
