SIDELIGHTS:

Tom Miller told CA: "I was trained as a historian and spent most of my working life as a college instructor. Over the years I wrote and published dozens of professional articles. It wasn't until my own son was eleven years old and beginning to play baseball that I decided to try my hand at writing for young readers. I used sports as a backdrop for my novels because those were the kind of stories that most influenced me as a youngster. I'm still writing juvenile novels, but since retirement from teaching I became a regular contributor to the popular Web site Military.com. Along with book and movie reviews, I write a column of nostalgic essays titled ‘Things I Remember.’ It spans the events that shaped my life and world as one of the original Baby Boomers. If there's enough interest, I'd like to publish a collection of the essays. Although my son's grown now, I still enjoy and write about young people."
