Blaize Clement is the author of a mystery series featuring protagonist Dixie Hemingway, a deputy sheriff who becomes a pet sitter after losing her husband and daughter in an accident. In Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter: The First Dixie Hemingway Mystery, she is hired to watch Ghost, an Abyssinian, but after arriving at the home, she discovers a dead body. When she finds the cat's owner dead and she is named guardian of Ghost, who is to inherit the owner's estate, Dixie becomes a suspect in the murder. The character list includes a handsome detective and suspicious neighbors, a family that consists of an alcoholic wife, a homophobic father, and a talented but closeted son. A Kirkus Reviews contributor wrote: "An entertaining debut. Dixie is a complex, well-conceived character and the plot fast-moving and believable."

Duplicity Dogged the Dachshund: The Second Dixie Hemingway Mystery finds Dixie walking in the park with an elderly dachshund who discovers the body of Conrad, another of Dixie's clients. Just minutes earlier she had waved at a man she thought to be Conrad, as he was driving in Conrad's car and had his dog. She soon realizes that the killer thinks she can identify him and she becomes a target.Booklist reviewer Barbara Bibel described this entry as "an entertaining cozy."
