WORK IN PROGRESS: Another book of poetry.

SIDELIGHTS: Dutch poet, author, and editor G. Willem Abma, who often writes verse under the pseudonym Daniël Daen, has garnered much critical success in the Netherlands for his work. Abma has published over twenty books, which include collections of poetry and a number of novels. Born July 12, 1942, in the Dutch town of Folsgeare, Abma published his first work in 1970. In 1973 he earned the prestigious Gysbert Japiexpriis for his first three collections of poetry: De âlde en de leave hear as lead om âld izer, Op libben en dea, and Mosken en Goaden, all published under the Daniël Daen pseudonym. In addition, he received the Rely Jorritsma Prize in 1983.

Abma's novels include several thrillers, one of which is 1995's De mafiaman. His literary credits also include Tussen Goed en Fout: Nieuwe Gezichtspunten in de Geschiedschrijiving 1940-1945, which he coedited. The book contains a number of articles about the Nazi occupation of the Dutch province of Friesland during World War II. Louis de Jong and Hans Blom, the latter a history professor at the University of Amsterdam, are among the contributors to the work.
