Zhelobinsky, Valeri (Viktorovich)

Zhelobinsky, Valeri (Viktorovich), Russian composer, pianist, and teacher; b. Tambov, Jan. 27,1913; d. Leningrad, Aug. 13,1946. He studied in Tambov and with Shcherbachev at the Leningrad Cons. (1928-32). He taught at the Tambov Music School. As a pianist, he performed mainly his own compositions. His operas were written in a fine Romantic manner.
