Vitalis, George
Vitalis, George, Greek composer and conductor; b. Athens, Jan. 9,1895; d. there, April 27,1959. He studied with Armani in Milan. He conducted light opera in Athens (1923-36), then went to the U.S. in 1945 and settled in N.Y. He composed the operas Perseus and Andromeda, The Return of the Gods,and Golfo (concert perf., N.Y., Jan. 1, 1949), as well as Greek Fantasyfor Orch. (Athens, Nov. 11, 1945) and light orch. pieces under the pseudonym Giorgio Valente.
