Thomhill, Claude
Thomhill, Claude, American pianist, bandleader, and composer; b. Terre Haute, Ind., Aug. 10, 1909; d. Caldwell, N.J., July 1, 1965. He studied piano and composition at the Cincinnati Cons, and at the Curtis Inst. of Music in Philadelphia. He was an arranger for Benny Goodman and others, and in 1940 organized a band of his own. Because of his uncommon musical literacy, he was able to make use of plausible novelties in his arrangements.
