Stravinsky, (Sviatoslav) Soulima

Stravinsky, (Sviatoslav) Soulima, Russian-American pianist, teacher, and composer, son of Igor (Feodorovich) Stravinsky; b. Lausanne, Sept. 23, 1910; d. Sarasota, Fla., Nov. 28, 1994. He received training in piano from Philipp and in theory and composition from Boulanger in Paris. In 1934 he made his Paris debut as a pianist, and subsequently established himself as an authoritative interpreter of his father’s piano music. In 1939 he joined the French Army and remained in France during World War II. In 1948 he settled in the U.S., where he appeared as soloist in his father’s works with his father conducting. From 1950 to 1978 he taught piano at the Univ. of III. School of Music. Among his compositions were several chamber pieces, including 3 string quartets and a Cello Sonata. He prepared eds. of various Mozart piano concertos, for which he also composed cadenzas.
