Stoin, Elena , Bulgarian ethnomusicologist, daughter of Vassil Stoin ; b. Samokov, April 12, 1915. She graduated from the Bulgarian State Academy of Music in Sofia (1938), then taught music in various schools until 1945; became research assistant at the Ethnographical Museum in Sofia (1946) and also worked in the folk-music dept. of the Music Inst. of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (from 1950), becoming a senior research fellow (1970). She lectured widely in Eastern Europe on Bulgarian folk music; her folk- song collections include Sbornik narodini pesni ot Samokov i Samokovsko (Collection of Folk Songs from Samokov and the Samokov Region; Sofia, 1975), to which her father had contributed.
