Steingruber, Ilona
Steingruber, Ilona, Austrian soprano; b. Vienna, Feb. 8, 1912; d. there, Dec. 10, 1962. She studied piano before taking up vocal training at the Vienna Academy of Music. She sang in performances broadcast by the Austrian Radio (1939–42), making her operatic debut in Tilsit (1942). After World War II, she toured as a concert artist; also sang at the Vienna State Opera (1948–51); then taught in Darmstadt. In 1946 she married Friedrich Wildgans.
