Santini, Abbate Fortunato

Santini, Abbate Fortunato , Italian musk scholar and composer; b. Rome, Jan. 5, 1778; d. there, Sept. 14, 1861. He studied counterpoint with Jannacconi and at the Collegio Salviati, and later organ with Guidi; was ordained a priest in 1801. He devoted much time to acquiring a valuable library, which included about 4, 500 MSS and 1, 100 printed items; its holdings were enumerated in his Catalogo della musica esistente presso Fortunato Santini in Roma nel palazzo de’ principi Odescalchi incontro la chiesa de’ SS. XII. Apostoli (Rome, 1820). His original compositions include a Requiem, a Stabat Mater, and many motets.
