Sandi, Luis

Sandi, Luis , Mexican conductor, teacher, and composer; b. Mexico City, Feb. 22, 1905. He studied violin with Rocabruna (1923–30) and composition with Campa and Mejía (1925–31) at the National Cons. of Mexico City. He conducted a chorus at the Cons. (1922–35); in 1937 he founded the Coro de Madrigalistas and conducted it until 1965. He was a prof. of music in primary schools (1924–32) and chief of the Music Section of the Secretariat of Public Education (1933–65). He pubi. Introduction al estudio de la música: Curso completo (Mexico City, 1923; second ed., 1956) and a collection of articles as De música y otras cosas (Mexico City, 1969).
