Rudnytsky, Antin
Rudnytsky, Antin , Polish-American pianist, conductor, and composer; b. Luka, Galicia, Feb. 7, 1902; d. Toms River, N.J., Nov. 30, 1975. He studied piano with Schnabel and Petri, composition with Schreker, and musicology with Curt Sachs in Berlin; received his Ph.D. at the Univ. of Berlin in 1926. In 1927 he went to Russia, where he conducted opera in Kharkov and Kiev; then was conductor of the Lwów Opera (1932–37). In 1937 he emigrated to the U.S.; toured with his wife, the singer Maris Sokil, as her piano accompanist. He composed 3 syms. (1936, 1941, 1942); a Cello Concerto (1942); an opera, Dovbush (1937); some ballet music; miscellaneous pieces for instrumental ensembles; piano works.
