Rossi, Mario

Rossi, Mario , eminent Italian conductor; b. Rome, March 29, 1902; d. there, June 29, 1992. He studied at the Rome Cons. (graduated, 1925). He was deputy conductor of the Augusteo Orch. in Rome (1926–36) and resident conductor of the Maggio Musicale Orch. in Florence (1936–44); subsequently was chief conductor of the RAI Orch. in Turin (1946–69); also appeared as a guest conductor in Europe. He became especially well known for his performances of contemporary music.
