Rascher, Sigurd (Manfred)
Rascher, Sigurd (Manfred) , German-born American saxophonist; b. Elberfeld, May 15, 1907. He studied at the Stuttgart Cons., and became proficient on the saxophone. In 1939 he went to the U.S., where he developed a fine concert career. He founded the Rascher Saxophone Quartet (1969), which commissioned numerous Works for his instrument, including pieces by Glazunov, Ibert, Martin, Milhaud, and Hindemith.
