Prokina, Elena , Russian soprano; b. Odessa, Jan. 16, 1964. Following training in Odessa, she studied at the Theater Inst. and at the Cons. in Leningrad. In 1988 she became a member of the Kirov Opera in Leningrad, with which she appeared in many Russian roles both at home and on tours abroad. In 1994 she made her first appearance at London’s Covent Garden as Kát’a Kaban-ová, and also sang Tatiana at the Glyndebourne Festival and in Monte Carlo, and Donna Anna in Los Angeles. In 1995 she returned to Covent Garden as Desdemona and to Los Angeles as Lina in Steffelio, and also appeared as Amelia Boccanegra in Zürich. She sang in recital at London’s Wigmore Hall in 1997. In 1998 she was engaged as Kát’a Kabanová in Dallas and as Violetta in Zürich.
