Poglietti, Alessandro
Poglietti, Alessandro , eminent Italian organist, teacher, and composer; b. place and date unknown; d. at the hands of the Turks during the siege of Vienna, July 1683. He served as court and chamber organist in the Vienna Kapelle of Emperor Leopold I (from 1661). He was one of the outstanding keyboard composers of his era. His works included Endimione festeggiante, opera (Gottweig, Jan. 12, 1677), sacred vocal works, and keyboard music, including 12 ricercares (ed. in Die Orgel, II/5–6, Lippstadt, 1957), suites, canzonas, capric-cios, preludes, and fugues.
