Plancken, Corneille Vander
Plancken, Corneille Vander , Belgian violinist, clarinetist, conductor, teacher, and composer; b. Brussels, Oct. 25, 1772; d. there, Feb. 9, 1849. He studied violin with Eugène Godecharles and Jean Pauwels. He pursued his career in Brussels, where he was solo violinist in the orch. of the Grand Théâtre de la Monnaie (1797–1817?). From 1820 to 1830 he was solo violinist of the Royal Chapel. He also served as conductor of the Société du Grand Concert and Société Philharmonique. Plancken was a significant figure in the development of the Belgian school of violin virtuosity. He composed violin concertos and a Clarinet Concerto, but these works are lost.
