Perry, Janet

Perry, Janet , American soprano; b. Minneapolis, Dec. 27, 1944. She received piano and violin lessons at home, and appeared in local young people’s theater productions; then studied voice with Eufemia Giannini Gregory at the Curtis Inst. of Music in Philadelphia (B.M., 1967). In 1969 she made her operatic debut as Zerlina at the Linz Landestheater, remaining on its roster until 1971; following guest appearances at the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich and at the Cologne Opera, she became a member of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. She further made guest appearances in opera and concert in Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Paris, Zürich, Vienna, Berlin, Glyndebourne, and Salzburg. In 1983 she made her formal U.S. debut as Despina in Washington, D.C. Among her most successful roles were Susanna, Pamina, Constanze, Gilda, and Sophie.
