Peress, Maurice, American conductor; b. N.Y., March 18, 1930. He studied at N.Y.U. (B.A., 1951) and with H. Freistadt and J. Cnudde (trumpet) and P. James and C. Bamberger (conducting) at N.Y.’s Mannes Coll. of Music (1955–57). After serving as asst. conductor of the N.Y. Phil. (1961–62), he was music director of the Corpus Christi (Tex.) Sym. Orch. (1962–75), the Austin (Tex.) Sym. Orch. (1970–73), and the Kans. City Phil. (1974–80).
