Penet, Hilaire
Penet, Hilaire, French composer; b. Poitiers diocese, c. 1501; d. place and date unknown. He was in Rome by 1514, where he was a papal choirboy. By 1516 he was a member of the papal cappella. In 1519 he entered the papal private cappella, but left Rome in 1520. His motet Descendit angelus Domini influenced both Porta and Palestrina. In addition to other sacred works, he also wrote several cantatas.
