Palella, Antonio, Italian composer; b. Naples, Oct. 8, 1692; d. there, March 7, 1761. He served as 2ndharpsichordist at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples from its opening in 1737. His operas, all written for Naples, included L’Origelle (Dec. 8, 1740), L’incanti per amore (Oct. 2, 1741), II trionfo del valore (1741; in collaboration with G. Signorille, Porpora, and G. Paolo), II chimico (1742), Tigrane (Nov. 4, 1745; a major reworking of Hasse’s 1725 opera), and II geloso (1751). Among his other works were a Sinfonia, a Concerto a 4 for Flute, 2 Violins, and Bass, and cantatas.
