Ortiz, Cristina

Ortiz, Cristina, Brazilian-born English pianist; b. Bahia, April 17, 1950. She studied in Rio de Janeiro; after training with Magda Tagliaferro in Paris, she won first prize in the Van Cliburn Competition (1969). She made her N.Y. recital debut in 1971. Following further studies with R. Serkin at the Curtis Inst. of Music in Philadelphia, she pursued an international career (from 1973). In 1977 she became a naturalized British subject. She maintains an extensive repertoire, which includes both standard and rarely heard works.
