Ordonez or Ordonez, Carlos d’, Austrian composer of Spanish extraction; b. Vienna, April 19, 1734; d. there, Sept. 6, 1786. He was employed as a clerk, but studied violin and performed successfully at chamber music concerts. He wrote numerous Singspiels and much instrumental music, some of which was publ. during his lifetime. Ordonez developed an excellent metier, and several of his syms. possessed enough merit to be misattributed to Haydn.
