Munck, (Pierre Joseph) Ernest, Chevalier de
Munck, (Pierre Joseph) Ernest, Chevalier de, Belgian cellist, teacher, and composer; b. Brussels, Dec. 21, 1840; d. London, Jan. 19, 1915. After studying cello with his father, he was a student of Servais at the Brussels Cons, (premier prix, 1855). He was active in London, where he pursued a concert career and taught at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. After playing in the Maurin Quartet in Paris (1868–70), he was solo cellist of the Weimar Hofkapelle. In 1871 he married Carlotta Patti, with whom he made concert tours. In 1893 he settled in London as a prof, at the Royal Academy of Music. He wrote a Concerto dramatique for Cello and Orch. and other pieces for his instrument.
