Mei, Orazio
Mei, Orazio, Italian organist and composer; b. Pisa, May 26, 1731; d. Livorno, March 1, 1788. He was a student of his father, Francesco Saverio Mei, a violinist at the church of the Cavalieri di S. Stefano in Pisa, and of his uncle, Nicola Meil, the organist of Pisa Cathedral. In 1748 he became organist at the church of Cavalieri di S. Stefano in Pisa. After serving as his uncle’s successor as organist at Pisa Cathedral (1759–63), he was maestro di cappella at Livorno Cathedral from 1763 until his death. He composed both sacred and secular music, his Stabat mater being particularly noteworthy.
