LogOthetis, Anestis

LogOthetis, Anestis, Bulgarian-born Austrian composer of Greek parentage; b. Burgas, Oct. 27, 1921; d. Lainz, Jan. 6, 1994. He went to Vienna in 1942 and studied at the Technischen Hochschule until 1944, and then received training in theory and composition from Ratz and Uhi and in piano and conducting from Swarowsky at the Academy of Music, graduating in 1951. In 1952 he became a naturalized Austrian citizen. He worked with Koenig at the electronic music studio of the West German Radio in Cologne (1957). In 1960 and 1963 he was awarded the Theodor Körner Prize; in 1986 he received the honorary gold medal of the city of Vienna. He exhibited in Vienna galleries a series of polymorphic graphs capable of being performed as music by optional instrumental groups. He employed a highly personalized “integrating” musical notation, making use of symbols, signs, and suggestive images, playing on a performer’s psychological associations.
