Litvinenko-Wohlgemut, Maria (Ivanova)
Litvinenko-Wohlgemut, Maria (Ivanova), Russian soprano; b. Kiev, Feb. 6, 1895; d. there, April 4, 1966. She was a student of Alexeyeva- Yunevich and Ivanitsky at the Kiev Music Inst. (graduated, 1912). In 1912 she made her operatic debut as Oxana in Gulak-Artemovsky’s The Cossack Beyond the Danube in Kiev. She was a member of the Petrograd Music Drama Theater (1914–16), the Kharkov Opera (1923–25), and the Kiev Opera (1935–51). From 1946 she taught at the Kiev Cons. In 1936 she was honored as a People’s Artist of the U.S.S.R. In addition to her portrayals of Russian roles, she was admired for her Aida and Tosca.
