Lavrovskaya, Elizaveta Andreievna

Lavrovskaya, Elizaveta Andreievna, Russian mezzo-soprano; b. Kashin, Tver district, Oct. 13, 1845; d. Petrograd, Nov. 4, 1919. She studied at the Elizabeth Inst. and the St. Petersburg Cons., making her debut in Gluck’s Orfeo (1867), then studied with P. Viardot in Paris. She sang opera in St. Petersburg (1868-72; 1879-80) and at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow (1890); also appeared as a recitalist. She taught at the Moscow Cons, (from 1888). Tchaikovsky admired her vocal abilities and wrote his 6 songs of op.27 for her.
