Köler, David, German composer; b. Zwickau, c. 1532; d. there, July 13?, 1565. He was educated at the Univ. of Ingolstadt (1551). In 1556-57 he was Kantor in Joachimsthal, Bohemia, then town Kantor in Altenburg before taking up the post of Kapellmeister at the Mecklenburg court in Schwerin in 1563. In 1565 he returned to Zwickau as Kantor. His Zehen Psalmen Davids for 5 and 6 Voices (Leipzig, 1554) is a distinguished collection of Protestant motets.
