Kenyon, Nicholas (Roger) (b Altrincham, 1951). Eng. music critic, broadcaster, and administrator. Worked for BBC mus. division and as free-lance critic 1975–9. Mus. critic, the New Yorker 1979–82, The Times 1982–5, The Listener 1982–7, The Observer 1985–92. Ed., Early Music to 1992. Controller Radio 3, BBC, from 1992; dir., Henry Wood Proms from 1996. Author of The BBC Symphony Orchestra 1930–80 (1981) and Simon Rattle: the Making of a Conductor (1987). CBE 2001.
