Kayser, Isfrid

Kayser, Isfrid , German composer; b. Türkheim an der Wertach, near Augsburg, March 13, 1712; d. Marchtal, near Ulm, March 1, 1771. Following music studies with his father, the village organist and schoolmaster, he entered the Premonstratensian monastery in Marchtal in 1732, where he served as music director from about 1741 to 1750. Subsequently he was a parish priest until returning to Marchial in 1761, where he was made sub-prior in 1763. Kayser was one of the principal Bavarian composers of sacred music in his day, publishing collections of cantatas, masses, Psalms, and other works. He also wrote keyboard suites.
