Kastner, (Macario) Santiago

Kastner, (Macario) Santiago , distinguished English pianist, harpsichordist, and musicologist; b. London, Oct. 15, 1908; d. Lisbon, May 12, 1992. He studied in London and Amsterdam, then took courses with Hans Beltz (piano), Ramin (harpsichord), Hans Prüfher (musicology), and Friedrich Högner (theory) in Leipzig. He completed his studies with Juan Gilbert Camins (harpsichord and clavichord) and Angles (musicology) in Barcelona. He settled in Lisbon in 1933, and taught at the Cons, there (from 1947). He was an authority on Hispanic keyboard music. In addition to writing several important books, he ed. works by Portuguese and Spanish composers.
