Kaplan, Mark

Kaplan, Mark, American violinist; b. Cambridge, Mass., Dec. 30, 1953. He was brought up in Syracuse, N.Y. and began violin lessons as a small child. At the age of 8, he won a local violin competition, and enrolled as a student of Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School of Music in N.Y. He received its Fritz Kreisler Memorial Award. In 1973 he was awarded the prestigious Award of Special Distinction at the Leventritt Competition in N.Y., and subsequently was a soloist with many of the major orchs. of North America and Europe, meriting praise for his fine musicianship and virtuoso technique.
