Jones, Robert, English lutenist and composer; b. c. 1570; d. c. 1615. He studied at the Univ. of Oxford (Mus.B., 1597). With several other musicians, he was granted a patent to form the “Children of the Réveils of the Queene.” He publ. 5 books of lute songs(1600, 1601, 1605, 1607, 1610; ed. by E.H. Fellowes in The English School of Lutenist Song Writers, 1920-32; rev., 1959, by T. Dart in The English Lute-Songs, 2nd series, IV) and a book of madrigals (1605; ed. by E.H. Fellowes in The English Madrigal School, 1913-24; rev, 1961, by T. Dart in The English Madrigalists).

Jones, Robert (b c.1485; d c.1535). Eng. composer and singer. Member of Chapel Royal under Henry VII and Henry VIII. Was at Field of the Cloth of Gold 1520. Only 3 comps. survive: Missa ‘Spes nostra’ in 5 parts, Magnificat in 5 parts, and 3-part song ‘Who shall have my fayr ladye?’
