Hough, Stephen (Andrew Gill)
Hough, Stephen (Andrew Gill), English pianist; b. Heswall, Cheshire, Nov. 22, 1961. He began piano lessons at age 6, later becoming a pupil of Gordon Green and Derrick Wyndham at the Royal Northern Coll. of Music in Manchester and of Adele Marcus at the Juilliard School in N.Y. In 1982 he won the 1st Terence Judd Award and made his London debut; in 1983 he won the Naumburg International Piano Competition in N.Y. He made his N.Y. debut in 1984; in subsequent seasons, he appeared as a soloist with many of the world’s leading orchs. and toured widely as a recitalist. His vast repertoire ranges from early keyboard works to contemporary scores.
