Holl, Robert

Holl, Robert, Dutch bass-baritone; b. Rotterdam, March 10, 1947. He studied with Jan Veth and David Hollestelle. After winning 1st prize in the ’s-Hertogenbosch Competition in 1971, he pursued training with Hans Hotter in Munich. In 1972 he captured 1st prize in the Munich International Competition. After appearing with the Bavarian State Opera in Munich (1973–75), he pursued a concert career. From 1981 to 1983 he was engaged in opera at the Mozartwochen in Salzburg. In 1988 he sang in Schubert’s Fierabras at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna. He appeared as Assur in Semiramide and as La Roche in Capriccio in Zürich in 1992. Following an engagement as Hans Sachs at the Bayreuth Festival and as Amfortas in Zürich in 1996, he sang in Schubert’s Des Teufels Lustschloss at the Vienna Festival in 1997. In 1990 he was made an Austrian Kammersänger. Holl’s engagements as a soloist with orchs., as an oratorio singer, and as a lieder artist have taken him all over the world.
