Hoch, Beverly , American soprano; b. Marion, Kans., Aug. 26, 1951. She studied at Friends Univ. in Wichita (1969–73), Okla. City Univ. (B.M., 1975), and Wichita State Univ. (M.M., 1978), and in N.Y. with Michael Trimble (1977–82) and Ellen Faull (1982–86). In 1980 she won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, made her recital debut at the 92nd Street Y in N.Y, and sang for the first time in opera at the Opera Theatre in St. Louis. From 1980 to 1988 she was a soloist with the Chamber Music Soc. of Lincoln Center in N.Y. In 1981 she made her debut as a soloist with orch. when she appeared at N.Y’s Carnegie Hall with the St. Paul Chamber Orch. under Zukerman’s direction. After singing Filene in Mignon at the Wexford Festival in 1986, she was engaged to sing Offenbach’s Olympia at the Théâtre des Champs Ely sees in Paris in 1987. She portrayed the Queen of the Night with the London Classical Players under Norrington’s direction in 1990, a role she reprised in 1991 at the Glyndebourne Festival, the San Antonio Opera, and the London Promenade Concerts. She appeared as Adele at the Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg in 1993. From 1994 she was the soprano of the Bach Aria Group in N.Y. In 1997 she sang Vespina in Haydn’s L’infedeltà delusa at the Bard Festival in N.Y. As a soloist, Hoch has appeared with major orchs. around the world.
