Herold, Vilhelm (Kristoffer)
Herold, Vilhelm (Kristoffer), Danish tenor; b. Hasle, March 19, 1865; d. Copenhagen, Dec. 15, 1937. He studied in Copenhagen, and then with Devillier and Sbriglia in Paris. He made his debut at the Royal Danish Theater in Copenhagen in 1893 as Faust; was a member of the Royal Theater in Stockholm (1901-03; 1907-09); also made guest appearances in London, Berlin, Dresden, and Hamburg. In 1915 he retired from the operatic stage. He served as director of Copenhagen’s Royal Theater (1922–24). Herold was best known for his Wagnerian roles.
